Discussion:
Is it feasible to have a geotiff file as output from GMT ?

Dear all

I have been working with GMT version 4.5.8 (under Linux
Ubuntu 64 bit) for more than one year

and everything has rolled
smoothly (basically I have been using GMT to generate maps like the ones

you may see at http://www.ipma.pt/en/maritima/satelite/).

Someone
told me to check if I could generate geotiff files eventually based upon
some choice in GMT.

It thought that the output from GMT was generally
a PS file, but eventually some choice (unknown to me)

could be
available to generate geotiff files as output. Is this feasible? If so,
how should I proceed to have

a geotiff file as output, please ?

I
thank you for the kindness of your attention and help.

Have a good
weekend.

Arlindo Arriaga

PS: please, be aware that I am a bare
beginner of GMT...

geotiff is an option for converting your PS map via ps2raster. Carefully read that man page, and note use of inside boundary annotations/ticks, etc.

grdimage can also create GeoTiffs but this solution creates only what
grdimage can do. That is, no vector or text elements.

... and you remember that I tried to persuade you to install GMT5? The
GDAL support is slowly lagging behind on GMT4
