Dear GMT users,

Some days ago an e-mail was sent from my account (***@gmail.com)
with the subject "important document".

Please delete this e-mail, because if you follow its instructions it will
take your e-mail addresses.

Unfortunately I got it precisely from a person from whom I was expecting to
get some documents... So really I had bad luck!

I apologize for any inconvenience you had.

Hi,

So my “RDF” works and I have a new estimate of the global Heat Flux using Goutorbe's method and “attributes” in a new way. Cool, but this is Watts/m^2, and everyone wants to know what the total heat flux from the core/mantle is.

I simply need to “integrate my grid over area”.

While it is possible to make the “area of each node” grid as described here by Paul and Joaquim a few years ago,

I’m wondering if there is a new and improved new tool from the GMT 5, (or possibly a “trick”) that does “integrals” of all sorts:

one D, area, volume

line, contour, etc, etc,

Thanks,

JJ

Hi Joe,

Perhaps it is anathema to suggest using some other software, but I'm a big believer in using the best tool for the job. Ferret (http://ferret.pmel.noaa.gov/Ferret/) is a great way to get simple integrals like this:

use heatflux.nc
list foo[x=@din,y=@din]

will do the trick. Ferret has less sophisticated graphics, but excels at simple netCDF I/O and analysis.

Regards,

Andy
