No valid values in grid

Hi all,

there is an error that occurs using GMT4.2.1 which does not occure using
GMT4.0 or lower.

I'm using the nearneighbor routine to grid a xyz binary table stored in xyz.tab

nearneighbor -R000/1700.00/000/1200.00 -F -N4 -I3.125000 -bi -Gout.grd xyz.tab

with GMT4 it works but GMT4.2.1 gives an error:
"no valid values in grid"

I already tried to set GRID_FORMAT from nf to cf, but the error remains.
I checked the grd file with ncdump.
The dimensions attributes for the grd file with the error are :
x=544
y=384.
The conventions attribute is set to "COARDS, CF-1.0".

The dimensions attributes for the grd file without this error are:
side=2
xysize=208896

The configuration files .gmtdefaults look pretty much the same for both
versions of GMT.

Now I'm a little bit puzzled, is there someone who can help me with that
problem?

regards
Jens

Hi Jens,

it is difficult to tell what goes wrong without having your
input data.
But: v4.2.1 is from nov 2007. v4.3.1 is the actual version.
Maybe there _was_ a bug...
Can you update GMT?

Cheers,

Stephan

PS: If the file isn't toooo big, you might send it to me via
private mail and I check it for you.

Hi all, Hi Stephan,

I gave Stephan my xyz.tab file and he was able to reproduce my error, that
was a good and a bad news.
It was a good news because it sounds like a problem which has nothing to do
with our GMT configuration, but maybe with our old GMT Version.
It was a bad news because it didn't solve the problem.

So I will try to catch our sysadmin to ask him to install the new GMT
Version, hopefully the error will diminish.

I the meantime any other ideas to solve my problem?

But,... (isn't there allways a but), if the error remains....

regards
Jens
